Design Summit 2012
In a year of celebration of all things British, NB were pleased to join the zeitgeist by creating the identity for the Design Council’s Design Summit. The mark itself had to reflect the Summit’s two core themes – Britain and identity. Our design draws its inspiration from the Britain Can Make It poster, which was originally commissioned by the Council of Industrial Design, the forerunner to the Design Council, for an exhibition in 1946.
We started by thinking about what made Britain great, and how to show that design is part of Britain’s DNA. This led to early drawings of double helix structures, which combined with the influence of the Britain Can Make It poster, resulted in a graphic identity based on the shape of the British Isles. We applied this identity across a range of printed collateral and exhibition materials, including signage, brochures, and name badges.
